Transforming the Search Space with Gray Coding
نویسندگان
چکیده
| Genetic algorithm test functions have typically been designed with properties in numeric space that make it diicult to locate the optimal solution using traditional optimization techniques. The use of Gray coding has been found to enhance the performance of genetic search in some cases. However, Gray coding produces a diierent function mapping that may have fewer local optima and diierent relative hyperplane relationships. Therefore, inferences about a function will not necessarily hold when transformed to another search space. In fact, empirical results indicate that some genetic algorithm test functions are signiicantly altered by Gray coding such that local optimization methods often perform better than genetic algorithms.

Using composite ranking to select the most appropriate Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method in the optimal operation of the Dam reservoir
In this study, the performance of the algorithms of whale, Differential evolutionary, crow search, and Gray Wolf optimization were evaluated to operate the Golestan Dam reservoir with the objective function of meeting downstream water needs. Also, after defining the objective function and its constraints, the convergence degree of the algorithms was compared with each other and with the absolut...
متن کاملInSAR Phase Unwrapping by Transforming Sparce Data into a Regular Space
Phase unwrapping is one of the most important parts of InSAR techniques. In order to estimate the grand surface displacements, interferomtric phases modulated between 0 to 2π must be unwrapped. Based on the use of either the conventional method or persistent scatterer (PS), phases will be spread both regularly and irregularly. The phases of PSs can be unwrapped by reducing phases into a regular...
متن کاملApplication of Single-Frequency Time-Space Filtering Technique for Seismic Ground Roll and Random Noise Attenuation
Time-frequency filtering is an acceptable technique for attenuating noise in 2-D (time-space) and 3-D (time-space-space) reflection seismic data. The common approach for this purpose is transforming each seismic signal from 1-D time domain to a 2-D time-frequency domain and then denoising the signal by a designed filter and finally transforming back the filtered signal to original time domain. ...
متن کاملDynamic evolution of the genetic search region through fuzzy coding
A technique for automatic exploration of the genetic search region through fuzzy coding (Sharma and Irwin, 2003) has been proposed. Fuzzy coding (FC) provides the value of a variable on the basis of the optimum number of selected fuzzy sets and their effectiveness in terms of degree-of-membership. It is an indirect encoding method and has been shown to perform better than other conventional bin...
متن کاملAn analysis of Gray versus binary encoding in genetic search
This paper employs a Markov model to study the relative performance of binary and Gray coding in genetic algorithms. The results indicate that while there is little difference between the two for all possible functions, Gray coding does not necessarily improve performance for functions which have fewer local optima in the Gray representation than in binary.
